The
Student and Family
Assistance Center provides
early, short-term intervention services to students who exhibit
high-risk behaviors. Services include student/family assessments,
support group, and semi-annual skills development workshops for
students and their parents (life skills, decision-making, anger
management, and substance abuse prevention), and special events such as
a Summer Youth Leadership Conference.
Program Eligibility: To be
eligible for service, students must be referred by the School Attendance
Review Board, the Student Behavior and Placement Office, or the Mobile
Intervention Training Team. The MITT Team receives referrals from
Middle School principals who request early intervention before students
have been referred to SARB or Behavior Hearings. Students appropriate
to receive Student and Family Assistance Center services include: those
with poor school behavior and performance, high suspension rate,
delinquent behavior and/or signs of substance abuse; those living in
families with poor parental supervision and control; or where there is a
documented family history of domestic violence, child abuse, neglect or
other trauma.
Who Should Refer: Student
Attendance and Review Board, Student Behavior and Placement Office and
School Principals using the MITT process.
