The Sacramento City Unified School District Security Services
Department is responsible for the safety and security of
ninety-four district sites spread over 75 square miles, over
45,000 students and over 5,000 employees. District Security
Officers from this department are responsible for responding to
and investigating intrusion alarms, fire alarms, and conducting
investigations regarding vandalism, theft, burglaries, and arson.
District Security Officers file property crime reports with the
Sacramento Police Department and the Sacramento County Sheriff’s
Department for follow-up investigation. Officers from this
department work very closely with these agencies in an effort to
prevent property crime, and apprehend those individuals who
commit property crimes on our school campuses.
The Security Services Office also processes and provides
computerized identification cards for employees assigned to the
school district’s administration building, and identification
cards for all school site employees.

facility use fee information and also for information on the
process to apply for facility use permits for after hour and
weekend events.
The Chief of Security over sees the district’s video surveillance
camera program and is responsible for monitoring over 750
surveillance cameras located at 70 district sites after hours,
weekends, and holidays.
Since 1986, the Kops-n-Kids organization has partnered with
local, state and federal law enforcement agencies, local fire
departments, educators and community volunteers to provide a week
long summer day camp for boys and girls between the ages of 9-13,
giving them the opportunity to interact with positive role
models, experience sports clinics and participate in gang
resistance, violence prevention & gun avoidance activities.
All district employees should have an ID badge. ID badges
increase safety on campus. They make it easy to distinguish
between those who should be there and those who should not.
Security Services has a portable badge maker. This
enables them to travel to a site and create badges for the
entire staff at the same time. Security Services will then
return to Serna, make the badges and deliver them back to the
site. This usually takes a couple of days.
Serna Center employee ID badges are processed every Friday
morning from 9:00 a.m.
