Head Start

Description

Federally funded preschool and home-based services for children ages 3 to 5 with comprehensive support services for families, including parenting support, social services, health and nutrition, mental health, child development, and special education support.
 

Location(s)

43 classes at various sites throughout the district
 

Hours of Operation

5 extended day classes meet 6 hours a day -- typically 8:00a.m. to 2:00 p.m.  Other classes meet 3.5 hours a day, most 12:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.  Six sites have morning classes also, 8:00 to 11:30.
 

Languages

English, but Teacher Assistants-Bilingual are available to support Spanish speakers.

None

Eligibility Requirements

Families must be income eligible and children age eligible, and must be a resident of SCUSD.

Application Process

Head Start applications available at either Child Development Department registration center:  Capital City or Hiram Johnson.
