Extended School Year

Students who have disabilities which are likely to continue indefinitely or for a prolonged period, or when the interruption of the student’s educational program may cause regression which, because of the student’s limited recoupment ability, would render it impossible or unlikely that the student would recover, may be eligible for special education beyond the regular academic year. In all cases, the IEP Team makes the determination that an extended school year is required and includes it in the IEP. An extended school year is for a minimum of 20 instructional days.
