UC Davis Field Trip Opportunity: ‘Sketches of Science’
Middle, High School
This January, an exciting exhibit illustrating the discoveries of 50 Nobel Prize winning scientists will make its North American debut at the Mondavi Center on the UC Davis campus. Middle school, high school and college and university students from throughout Northern California are invited to view this inspiring display of science and significant discoveries in the making.
“Sketches of Science: Photo Sessions with Nobel Laureates” is a display of portraits of Nobel Laureates shot by German photographer Volker Steger. The portraits and a selection of original drawings included in the exhibition are accompanied by interviews and presentations of the Nobel Laureates and their discoveries.
Each of Steger’s meetings with the Laureates began with him placing a blank sheet of paper and a box of crayons in front of them, after which he challenged them to: “Draw your discovery!” Once completed, a portrait was taken of the Laureate holding the drawing.
The exhibit is sponsored by the Nobel Museum and Mars, Incorporated, and will be open Tuesdays through Saturdays, January 6 through 28, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mondavi Center patrons will be able to view the exhibit an hour before and an hour after shows.
