November is National Adoption Awareness Month, an initiative of the Children’s Bureau with a goal to increase national awareness and bring attention to the need for permanent families for children and youth in the foster care system.

This year, National Adoption Month focuses on the importance of identifying permanent families for thousands of 15- to 18-year-olds in foster care who are currently less likely to be adopted, often because of their age, and who all too often age out of the system without a stable place to call home.

The Center for Adoption Policy has created a guide for parents and teachers to heighten awareness of adoption issues when creating school assignments such as the creation of a family tree or requests to bring baby pictures to class.
