The Next Generation Science Standards
All Grades

Principal Bulletin Informational

The California Department of Education (CDE) adopted the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) in 2013 and released the draft instructional framework for Science Education last month. To prepare for the implementation of the new standards, the district collaborated with SCTA in the spring of 2015 to form a committee and develop a comprehensive three-year NGSS implementation plan. The committee was comprised of elementary, middle and high school teachers from schools across the district and administrators. As a result, the district has begun preparing teachers and students for shifts in science instruction and practice and is almost halfway through an engaging and productive NGSS professional learning series. The goal of the series is to provide teachers with strategies to plan, teach and assess the eight (8) Science and Engineering Practices. The sessions are facilitated by teacher mentors who are current teachers within SCUSD. It is not too late to sign up for sessions! Teachers are compensated at the per-diem rate for participation. Dates for remaining sessions are:

January 27, February 24, March 15 and April 19
