New State Law – Epinephrine now at SCUSD Schools
California legislature passed a new law (SB 1266) that went into effect January 1, 2015. This legislation was enacted to guard against dangerous allergic reactions in school children with no previously known allergies. The law requires every school in California to stock epinephrine auto-injectors, and train volunteer teachers and staff members on how to identify anaphylaxis, and administer this life-saving medication. All SCUSD schools are now prepared to address this medical need.
Please communicate with your parents if they have a child who is already diagnosed with anaphylaxis and has an emergency care plan, they must still provide the school with their child’s specific medication and doctors order.
