SCUSD is encouraging all high schools to participate in National Academic Signing Day on Tuesday, April 26. A program under First Lady Michelle Obama’s Reach Higher initiative, Signing Day is an opportunity for college-bound teens other than athletes to celebrate their futures.

A Signing Day event can be as simple as an on-campus “selfie station” where seniors can take photos in college T-shirts and post them using the hashtag #BetterMakeRoom. Other ideas include a lunchtime “sign-in,” an assembly or a picnic.

Reach Higher events are helping to rally young people to reach President Barack Obama’s “North Star” goal: That America will have the highest proportion of college graduates in the world by 2020.

To help schools plan an event for April 26, the White House has created a Signing Day Toolkit. Learn more here
