Principal Bulletin Informational

The College and Career Readiness Department would like to remind you of some exciting changes that will simplify and improve the FAFSA process for the next academic year.

The 2017-18 FAFSA will now be available on October 1, 2016.

In addition, parents will be reporting their family income based on prior-prior year (year before last) tax information when completing the FAFSA. For example, for a 2017-18 FAFSA, your income will be based on 2015 taxes.

Completing the FAFSA earlier has several benefits. Families will have more time to plan and prepare for college and with the use of prior-prior year tax information, the application process will be more efficient for students and families.

For most families, their 2015 taxes will have already been filed. This will allow them to access and use the Data Retrieval Tool on the FAFSA to link their tax information to the FAFSA application directly from the IRS. Our office encourages every family to attempt to use the tool to ensure the 2015 tax figures are entered correctly.
