Chronic Absences
All Grades

Principal Bulletin Informational

With the upcoming Winter Break, please note the importance of attendance messaging, as our students are more frequently absent before and after breaks. These simple messages can serve as powerful reminders of how absences add up and impact our students’ academic success. Attached are sample messaging strategies you can share with your families to remind them of the importance of attendance (provided by Attendance Works http://www.attendanceworks.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/giftofattendance11.1.15-Final.pdf).

This is also a good time to review your attendance data, including students who are chronically absent (missing 10% of school or more for any reason). Student attendance data is generated in Infinite Campus through the following tabs – Index – Attendance – Reports – ADM and ADA Detail.

As you may be aware, the California Department of Education recently released 16-17 chronic absence data through DataQuest. We encourage school sites to review this data with your site level teams.

To run a report for your school(s), follow the attached steps.

If you have questions about supporting positive attendance or want to learn more about the impact of chronic absence, please contact Ken McPeters, Director of Attendance & Enrollment ken-mcpeters@scusd.edu and/or Jacqueline Rodriguez, Coordinator II Student Support & Health Services Jacqueline-rodriguez@scusd.edu
