California Healthy Kids Survey
K-8, Middle and High Schools
The window for teachers to administer the California Healthy Kids Survey (CHKS) is March 13- March 31, 2017. The survey will be administered online in 7th, 9th and 11th grade classes. Students in 7th grade will take the survey in their science classes and students in 9th and 11th grade will take the survey in their Social Studies/History classes. The online survey can be administered in one class period (completion takes less than 50 minutes).
California Healthy Kids Survey provides a comprehensive, data-driven and evidence based tool that can be beneficial in the development and support of programs intended to enhance the social/emotional wellbeing of students, school climate, learning supports and engagement as it relates to Local Control and Accountability Plans for the district. The California Healthy Kids Survey also provides insight into what help schools might need to combat bullying, drug abuse and violence. The survey is voluntary and anonymous. No names are recorded/attached to the survey forms or data.
According to California Department of Education (CDE) standards, a minimum of 70% of student sample must take the survey to produce representative data. Your support is very important for achieving optimum student participation and completing this task on time. Please note: Students who return their withdrawal forms to their teachers with their parent/guardian signature will not take the survey.
Miamah Reed, Youth Services Specialist, will provide all the information including withdrawal forms (passive permission slips) to the school sites.
