1,000 Strong Update
Sacramento Mayor Steinberg’s 1,000 Strong Initiative is up and running! The City of Sacramento and SETA (Sacramento Employment and Training Agency) have recruited over 1,000 students for this year-round employment opportunity. Of the 1,162 students who applied for the program, 750 of the students are SCUSD students!
This is a monumental opportunity for Sacramento youth to be engaged in work-experience and continued employment in the 2017/18 school year.
Students will complete the 40 hours of work-readiness training the week of June 19 – 23, 2017. Given the length of the work-readiness training, students will cover work-readiness in detail. Beyond resume and cover letter writing, students will be engaged in learning project management, interview skills and other employment ready tools.
Once students have completed the 40 hours of work-readiness, they will be paired with a potential employer that is the best fit. These employers are being recruited by the City of Sacramento. Internships for SCUSD students will begin July 5. Students will be supported through the summer by various community-based organizations.
If you have a question about the process, or would like information about how many of your students are participating, please let me know.
