SCUSD’s third annual LGBTQ youth conference is Friday
West Sacramento Mayor Cabaldon to speak

Press release

April 3, 2014 (Sacramento):  West Sacramento Mayor Christopher Cabaldon is among the speakers who will discuss issues related to LGBTQ students at SCUSD’s third annual “No Time to Lose: A Professional Conference to Activate Change for LGBTQ Youth” on Friday (April 4).

Sacramento State professor David Nylund, director of the Gender Health Center and author of a book on masculinity and sports talk radio, is also scheduled to speak. The conference brochure, including a schedule of all speakers and workshops, is available at www.scusd.edu.

SCUSD’s “No Time to Lose” conference is a key component of the district’s comprehensive approach to creating safer, healthier learning environments for children. The goals of the conference include reducing the stigma associated with the LGBTQ student population and supporting their needs – social, emotional and academic.

SCUSD is the first public K-12 district in the region to pass a tough anti-bullying policy and the first to employ a full-time Bullying Prevention Specialist. It is one of only eight districts nationwide participating in a NoVo Foundation-funded Social and Emotional Learning initiative.
