McClatchy to rally for girls headed to state championship
Lady Lions are first SCUSD team to battle for CIF title since ‘02

March 25, 2015 (Sacramento):  C.K. McClatchy High School students and staff are holding a rally in front of the school on Friday morning (March 27) to show support for the girls’ basketball team, which battles Junipero Serra of Gardena for the state title later that day.

The Lady Lions defeated Oak Ridge High School of El Dorado Hills 58-49 at Sleep Train Arena last Saturday to win the Northern California Division I championship.  They are the first Sacramento City Unified team to make it to the state championship since 2002. If they win, they will be the first SCUSD state champions on record with the CIF.

The Lions play Serra’s Lady Cavaliers at 6 p.m. on Friday at UC Berkeley’s Haas Pavilion. The rally will show support for the players before they board buses headed for the East Bay.
