SCUSD Kids to Get Free Holiday Haircuts Courtesy Local Salon
Owner says ‘It’s time for me to give back’

Press Advisory Mark Hopkins

Just in time for winter break, students at Mark Hopkins Elementary School will get free haircuts on Thursday (December 22) courtesy “It’s All About You” salon.

Salon owner Connie Harris and two stylists will cut children’s hair from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. on campus. Mark Hopkins is located at 2221 Matson Drive in Sacramento. Media must check-in at the office.

A native of Mexico, Ms. Harris said she arrived in the United States not knowing the language and without much money. She is grateful to the community for allowing her to become a successful business owner, she said. “I’ve been very fortunate and it’s time for me to give back,” she said.

Ms. Harris said she selected Mark Hopkins because it has a high percentage of English language learners (about 54 percent) and because 100 percent of the students qualify for a free or reduced-price lunch, the federal poverty threshold.

Mark Hopkins Principal Tiffany Smith-Simmons said she deeply appreciates Ms. Harris’ civic-minded gesture. “Many in our community are really struggling right now,” she said. “Haircuts and a little extra attention will help our kids feel great despite challenging circumstances at home.”
