Is it true that students learning culinary arts at the Charles A. Jones Career and Education Center won’t be allowed to finish their program?
Among the proposed cuts to balance the district’s budget deficit for 2012-13 is the elimination of Adult Education programs that are not self-supporting. These cuts, if approved, would take effect for 2012-13. Students in the culinary arts program, which ends July 1, would be allowed to finish. However, if the cuts are approved, there would be no new enrollees for the fall of 2012-13.
An Adult Education Advisory Committee made up of students, staff and community members is meeting to put together a plan for how specific programs would be affected by cuts.
