Outside Agency GATE Screening

The SCUSD Gifted Education Department does not accept privately obtained GATE screening assessment results. This includes screening administered by private practice psychologists or university testing centers. SCUSD offers a robust internal screening program for students who reside within our district boundaries.

Students who were identified as eligible for GATE services in another district or state may be eligible for GATE services in Sacramento City USD. Please contact the GATE Department to learn more about this process.

If you have questions about having your child screened for GATE services, please contact the GATE Department at 916-643-9427.

Universal GATE Screening Begins in January

The first step in the screening process for Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) services is a cognitive abilities assessment administered to all 1st and 3rd grade SCUSD students this January. SCUSD utilizes multiple measures to identify students for services. This screening assessment is but one part of the GATE screening process.

  • 1st grade students are assessed utilizing the Naglieri Non-Verbal Abilities Test (NNAT3).
  • 3rd grade students are assessed utilizing the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) Form 7, Full Battery.

Notification of GATE Screening assessment results and GATE Identification status will happen by mail in the month of May.
