H.W. Harkness Elementary School
The H. W . Harkness Elementary School Parent Resource Center offers a variety of classes and workshops for parents, families and community members. Offerings include Personal Defense classes; Parent workshops on Positive Discipline and family classes on Raising Financially responsible Students. The Center operates five days a week from 8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. under the supervision of Parent Advisor and Case Manager, Lori Tullgren.
“Not a day goes by when parents are not on campus, now that we have the Parent Resource Center. So, it’s been a big success at Harkness”, Tullgren says.
The Center also serves as a hub for strong community partnerships. 100 Black Men meets and mentors students twice a month; local churches keep a ready supply of clothes for needy families on hand and Nordstrom donates 50 pairs of new shoes each year.
Harkness students are also learning the value of community service through Parent Center programs, collecting stuffed animals to distribute to children at Shriners Hospital; knitting hats and scarves for needy families and holding a Pennies for Patients drive to support the fight against childhood leukemia.
“As you can see, our Parent Resource Center offers so many opportunities for engagement to our families, and this is just part of what we offer!”, says Tullgren.
