BASIC FUNCTION:

Plan, organize, and coordinate the Parent and Preschool Education Program.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:

Plan, organize, and coordinate the implementation of a program of parent education, including family life education, for adults and preschool children, to include parent participation, which will provide meaningful experiences and learning activities for children of pre-kindergarten age.

Assist in the development, establishment, keeping of attendance, and conduct of classes in parent and preschool education; assist in the selection, credentialing, assignment, and evaluation of teachers in the Parent and Preschool Education Program; assist in budget preparation.

Assist in the development of curriculum in the area of parent and preschool education in cooperation with the Children's Centers and Parent Participation Preschools.

Provide training programs for teachers and paraprofessionals in parent and preschool education classes, and assist in the implementation of such programs.

Work in conjunction with appropriate offices of the State Department of Education in relation to parent and preschool education, including serving on committees for this department.

Work with local universities, colleges, and community colleges in providing opportunities for students in child development, child psychology, nursing education, and early childhood education to observe and take part in appropriate Parent and Preschool Education Programs.

Assist Special Education Department in assessing and placing students from the Preschool Program who have special needs.

Assist staff and parents with problems relating to programs and pupils.

Perform related duties as assigned.

TRAINING, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Any combination equivalent to: bachelor’s degree with emphasis in curricula, guidance, or parent education, and two years increasingly responsible experience in Preschool or Parent Education Programs.  

LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS: 

Valid California driver’s license, and provide personal automobile for work-related travel; Teaching Credential authorizing service at the elementary, preschool, and adult levels; Administrative Services Credential.

Planning, organization, and coordination of Preschool and Parent Education Programs.

Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy.

Principles and practices of management.

Applicable laws, codes, regulations, policies, and procedures.

District organization, operations, policies, and procedures.

Policies, objectives, and terminology of Preschool and Parent Education Programs.

Operation of a computer terminal and data entry techniques.

ABILITY TO:

Plan, organize, and coordinate district Preschool and Parent Education Programs.

Establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, parents, and public.

Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

Interpret, apply, and explain rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.

Analyze situations accurately, and adopt an effective course of action.

Operate a computer terminal to enter data, maintain records, and generate reports.

Meet schedules and timelines.

Evaluate and organize work according to specific program design.

Prepare comprehensive narrative and statistical reports.

Office environment; driving a vehicle to conduct work.

SAMPLE PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

Sitting for extended periods of time; hearing and speaking to exchange information, and make presentations; dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard; kneeling, crouching, or bending at the waist to retrieve or store files. Physical demonstration of recreational protocols and activities.
