DEFINITION
Under general supervision to direct and participate in operation of a
financial program for a high school, involving application of bookkeeping
principles in keeping specialized accounts and records of student body
funds, student store monies, and other high school activity funds.

CHARACTERISTICS
Employees
in this class are periodically required to work overtime to supervise the
collection of paid admissions at various high school activities and
events, and such overtime shall be compensated for by compensatory time
off at time and one-half or by overtime compensation in accordance with
district policies.
EXAMPLES
OF DUTIES
Supervises maintenance of bookkeeping records for all cash collections at
a high school; accounts for and banks all cash collections; issues checks
in payment of obligations of student body funds; periodically prepares
financial statements, which include trial balances, bank reconciliations,
profit and loss statements, balance sheets, and other financial reports;
closes books at end of each year and prepares work sheets, year-end
statements, and other schedules as required; acts as financial adviser to
the student body; makes recommendations for revising procedures, forms,
and statements; develops and installs procedures for the collection of
paid admissions at athletic events, school plays, and other high school
activities; supervises procurement, receipt, invoicing, and payment of all
items purchased with student body funds; assists the director of student
activities in preparing the annual student body budget; supervises school
bookkeeper and student help; makes, subject to supervisory approval,
financial decisions within school district policies and regulations; and
performs related duties as required.
MINIMUM
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
Accepted methods and principles of double entry bookkeeping and principles
of fund accounting;
Modern office procedures, practices, and management techniques;
Principles and practices of purchasing and budgeting procedures;
Laws and regulations governing sales, excise, withholding, and admissions
taxes.

Ability to:
Learn the policies and procedures of the high school controller's office;
Organize, assign, and supervise the work of a small staff engaged in
bookkeeping operations;
Install and maintain an accurate system of bookkeeping and financial
reporting;
Utilize modern office practices and techniques in management, accounting,
purchasing, and budgeting;
Exercise independent judgment and apply sound business practices to
financial activities;
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students,
teachers, other employees of the school district, and business firms.

Experience:
Two years of increasingly responsible bookkeeping or accounting
experience, preferably including one year in a governmental agency.
and
Education:
Graduation from high school, supplemented by courses in bookkeeping or
accounting. (Two years of college work in accounting or business
administration may be substituted for one year of the required
experience.)
