BASIC FUNCTION:

Monitor, direct and manage the activities of the Targeted Truancy and Public Safety (TTPS) Program.  Activities focus on four major areas: family empowerment and education; safety; truancy; and gang prevention.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:

Schedule, monitor and chair the TTPS Case Management and Service Provider Teams.

Serve as Case Manager for the TTPS Program.

Serve as community liaison with participating agencies.

Stay abreast of developments in county and city agencies involving innovations and services for children and families.

Interview families to determine needs and make appropriate referrals.

Conduct follow-up meetings with families.

Attend required meetings and conferences.

Prepare appropriate reports for the California Department of Education and other agencies as required.

Maintain records on an ongoing basis to be reviewed at regular meetings.

Work collaboratively with staff, school personnel and community agencies.

Perform related duties as assigned.

TRAINING, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Any combination equivalent to: Master’s Degree in Social Work and one year of experience in case management.

LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS: 

Valid California driver’s license; provide personal automobile.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

KNOWLEDGE OF:

Individual and group behavior and effects of social and economic forces on individuals.

Diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of district students.

Principles and techniques of interviewing and recording social case work.

Policies and objectives of assigned program and activities.

Community resources.

Applicable sections of the State Education Code and other applicable rules, regulations and laws.

Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy.

Record-keeping techniques.

Oral and written communication skills.

Public speaking techniques.

ABILITY TO:

Identify at-risk or high-risk students and determine and evaluate needs.

Listen to students with patience and understanding.

Develop constructive solutions to problems and prepare appropriate resources.

Coordinate activities with others to meet the needs of students in areas related to attendance, attitude and achievement.

Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

Operate a computer to maintain records and prepare reports; use the CARAS Case Management Software System.

Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.

Analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action.

Prepare and deliver oral presentations and inservices.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Office environment; driving a vehicle to conduct work.

SAMPLE PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

Sitting or standing for extended periods of time; hearing an speaking to exchange information in person or on the telephone and making presentations; seeing to observe and monitor students; dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard.

Occasional contact with dissatisfied or abusive individuals.
