DEFINITION
Under direction, to perform skilled work at the journeyman level involving
both rough and finished carpentry work on school structures and buildings.
EXAMPLES
OF DUTIES
Maintains and repairs doors, floors, windows, partitions, roofs, and other
parts of buildings; repairs and builds tables, shelves, desks, playground
equipment and fixtures; builds rough wooden structures such as barricades,
fences, and scaffolds, and performs sheeting and rough carpentry work on
school buildings; performs hand and bench work in carpentry shop; operates
planners, joiners, drill presses, power saws, and other woodworking
machinery; repairs hand tools, shovels, rakes, and band saws; sharpens
axes, joiner blades, and rip saws; and performs related duties as
required.
MINIMUM
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
Standard practices, methods, materials, and tools of the trade;
Occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade.
and
Ability to:
Plan, lay out, and perform carpentry work of average difficulty;
Work from sketches and blueprints.
and
Skill:
In the care and use of hand and bench tools and equipment of the carpentry
trade.
and
Experience:
As a journeyman or completion of an apprenticeship.
and
Education:
Equivalent to completion of the tenth grade.
Special Requirement:
Carpenters shall furnish their own hand tools and shall be required to
maintain them in proper order.
