DEFINITION
Under the direction of the assigned supervisor, the Career Information
Technician is responsible for planning and coordinating the operation and
activities of a school Career Center.
EXAMPLES
OF DUTIES
Publicize, promote and orient staff, students and parents to Career Center
programs and services; provide information about the laws, regulations,
rules and policies governing the school district's vocational education
programs; be knowledgeable of the prerequisites, qualifications and
requirements of the ROP program; stay informed of which vocational
education programs may be articulated with local community colleges; be
aware of available ROP classes and vocational education programs; inform
students, parents and school personnel of the location of ROP classes,
times and bus schedule; make presentations about vocational education
programs to classes and other groups; recruit students for and promote
district vocational education programs, such as Regional Occupational and
Vocational Education Programs and Youth Employment Services; process
enrollment for students in vocational education programs; assist in the
preparation of reports of students enrolled in the program, verification
lists and grades for the Registrar; serve as a liaison for district
vocational education program operations and the school site; identify
special student career needs and refer students to counselors for
assistance; order, review, catalog, inventory and maintain a library of
career information which consists of books, magazines, pamphlets,
filmstrips, occupational briefs, computer programs, college and technical
school catalogs; work with school staff members to facilitate student
participation in college outreach activities, such as the Early Start
Program at the community colleges; assist in the administration of career
interest surveys/assessments, such as VIEW, COIN, EUREKA, APPLE IIe,
APTICOM, ASVAC, etc., and in the explanation of the results to the
students; assist students with occupational research, college search,
financial aid applications, job applications, resumes and interviewing
techniques; coordinate publicity and obtain speakers from educational,
business, professional and military fields; supervise career-related field
trips; provide a job listing board for students, and provide information
to students on district job placement programs, such as JTPA; assist
district personnel with the implementation of the SETA sponsored and/or
other work programs by advertising, handing out applications, and
arranging certification times; stay abreast of current trends, materials,
techniques and activities by attending conferences, workshops and staff
meetings; supervise and train student aides used in the Career Center;
process work permits as authorized by certificated personnel; prepare a
variety of forms and reports of Career Center activities, and perform
other clerical duties as relates to the Career Center operation.

MINIMUM
QUALIFICATIONS
Ability to:
Plan and make presentations to small groups and classes;
Promote positive relationships with students, staff and general public;
Organize, catalog and display career information;
Work independently with students, parents and members of the community;
Learn how to operate Career Center equipment, i.e., computers, disc
players, projectors, etc.
Make decisions within the framework of established guidelines;
Establish priorities, and plan work with only overall objectives and
deadlines defined;
Perform responsible clerical work with accuracy and speed;
Operate common office machines.

Skill:
Typing speed of 40 net words a minute.
and
Experience:
Two years experience working in youth-related activities;
One year of experience in typing and clerical work.

Education:
Graduation from high school or equivalent.
