DEFINITION
Under the general supervision of the Principal or Vice Principal,
supervises and monitors the behavior of students and school visitors who
are outside of class at both on and off campus school-sponsored
activities. In close cooperation with the certificated staff and
district Police Officers, assists in the enforcement of applicable
sections of the Education Code, the District's Student Conduct Code, and
individual school rules; assists in the maintenance of an orderly and safe
campus.
EXAMPLES
OF DUTIES
Provide information to students and school visitors, and direct them to
the appropriate classroom or office; assist certificated staff with
preventive discipline by explaining school rules to students and parents;
establish a working relationship with certificated staff and students in
order to gain their trust and confidence, including informing students of
acceptable school behavior; patrol in and around immediate perimeters of
the school campus during school hours, providing general supervision
of students outside of class, remaining alert to problems which are likely
to disrupt the educational process or which might be physically injurious
to persons or property; intervene in situations likely to result in
disruption or injury to students or others, and direct students to refrain
from such conduct; check students who are out of class during class time
to inquire as the reason for their being out of class; direct tardy
students to report to the appropriate school office or class; intercept
non-students who enter the school campus during school hours, and direct
them to either report to the school office or leave the campus; notify the
Principal immediately if a non-student fails to comply, returns after
being directed to leave, or otherwise represents a threat to a safe and
orderly campus; escort students to the office in cases of serious or
repeated violations of school rules; complete necessary written reports as
requested by the Principal or Vice Principal, and serve as a witness in
student conferences, disciplinary hearings or other district proceedings;
cooperate with district Police Officers in working with students; performs
other job related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
Student Conduct Code and Education Code sections related to student
conduct.

Ability to:
Understand and carry out written and oral directions;
Communicate effectively with students and adults;
Use good judgment in situations affecting campus security;
Write clear and concise descriptive reports;
Acquire and maintain a valid First Aid and CPR Certificate issued by the
American Red Cross within six months of employment.
and
Experience:
One or more years experience working with parents and with high school and
middle school-age students in a multicultural setting preferred.
and
Education:
Equivalent to completion of the tenth grade. Graduation from high
school or the equivalent combination of education and experience
preferred.
