DEFINITION
Under general supervision, to perform more responsible technical work
involving procurement of complex groups of materials, supplies, and
equipment for school district.
EXAMPLES
OF DUTIES
Receives, examines and processes requisitions for complex groups of
materials, supplies, and equipment; prepares bid specifications and
assists in the negotiation of contracts; compares costs and evaluates the
quality and suitability of materials, supplies, and equipment;
investigates and recommends on sources of supplies; checks vendor's
compliance with legal requirements, maintains price and cost records on a
variety of supply items and revises as necessary; analyzes requisitions
and makes recommendations as to materials, supplies, and equipment which
should be purchased on a contract basis; follows up purchase orders to
insure receipt of proper quality and quantity on specified delivery dates;
and performs related duties as required.
MINIMUM
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
Purchasing principles and practices and the techniques of specification
writing;
Market conditions and practices for a complex group of materials,
supplies, and equipment;
Methods of purchasing by specification and competitive bidding.
and
Ability to:
Learn laws, regulations, and rules affecting school district purchasing
operations;
Prepare specifications according to established procedures and format;
Analyze and interpret complex written material and to speak and write
effectively;
Establish and maintain effective relationships with those contacted in the
course of the work.
and
Experience:
Three years of technical experience in large scale buying of materials,
supplies, and equipment.
and
Education:
Two years of college-level work. (Additional qualifying experience
may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.)
