DEFINITION
Under general supervision to perform clerical and technical work involving
processing of requisitions for purchase orders and ordering of supplies
and equipment for school district.
EXAMPLES
OF DUTIES
Receives and processes for quotations: book orders, magazine
subscriptions, warehouse reports on balances of goods, and cafeteria food
and goods reports; compiles purchase orders for books, magazine
subscriptions, warehouse goods, and cafeteria food and goods as directed;
makes adjustments, as directed, on purchase orders, such as cancellations,
out-of-print, or out-of-stock, and price adjustments for book and other
orders; notifies the proper personnel and departments when adjustments
have been made; follows-up on materials which have not been received;
gives information on correct titles, book lists, magazine lists, mailing
addresses, and related details as needed; obtains price quotations by
telephone as directed; processes discrepancies through proper channels;
maintains and brings up to date specifications and catalog files; gives
priority to orders as directed; and performs related duties as required.
MINIMUM
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
Sources, types, and characteristics of materials and supplies needed by a
school system;
Purchasing principles and practices.
and
Ability to:
Learn the school system of purchasing and the official procedures;
Analyze situations and to adopt effective courses of action;
Read, speak, and write effectively;
Operate common office machines, including a typewriter and adding machine.
and
Experience:
Two years of experience in a retail, industrial, or governmental
purchasing position.
and
Education:
Equivalent to graduation from high school, preferable supplemented by
college-level courses in purchasing and purchasing related business
courses. (One year of college related courses may be substituted for
one year of the required experience.)
