DEFINITION

            Under general direction, acts as the behavioral management technician for the Special Education Department to provide support and in-service assistance to staff in the management of students' problematic behaviors. Reports to the director, Special Education Department, or others as assigned.

EXAMPLES  OF  DUTIES

            Implements with staff the behavior management system, problem solving, confrontation and crisis management techniques needed for specific students; assists and supports teachers in designing, coordinating, and monitoring individualized behavior management programs; participates in the development and implementation of behavioral in-service training for staff; dispenses student medications as prescribed by physicians and observes their effects on student behavior; provides personal hygiene counseling to students and monitors results; submits required behavioral reports; acts as liaison with outside agencies in reporting critical student behaviors; attends staff meetings, in-services, school and agency activities and meetings as required; communicates with staff and exceptional individuals; provides consultation and support to staff in maintaining the effective management of student behavior; performs other related duties as required.

MINIMUM  QUALIFICATIONS

            Knowledge  of:

            Principles and methods of applying behavioral management techniques.

and

            Education:

            Any combination of education, training, and experience which includes at least an Associate of Arts Degree in a related field, certification in cardiopulminary resuscitation, and verification of training in the management of assaultive behavior.

and

            Experience:

            Demonstrated successful experience in adolescent psychiatric care and acute pediatric adolescent psychiatric in-patient care which includes behavior management techniques in a school setting.

and

            Special Requirements:

            The Behavior Management Technician is expected to work during the special education Extended School Year program; must possess a valid California driver's license.
