DEFINITION

            Under general direction, to perform skilled plumbing work of journeyman level and to supervise a group of skilled journeyman plumbers engaged in the installation, maintenance, and repair of equipment, fixtures, and other plumbing facilities in school buildings.

JOB  CHARACTERISTICS

            Plumber Foreman is differentiated from Assistant Plumber primarily by the scope and responsibility assumed by the Plumber Foreman in supervising the work activities of all plumbers plus stationary engineers.

EXAMPLES  OF  DUTIES

            Assigns subordinate plumbers to work details and inspects work in progress and upon completion to ensure that it meets required standards; inspects equipment, buildings, or other fixtures or items reported to be in need of repair, and estimates time, materials, and cost; repairs and inserts valves and ball cocks; packs faucets; repairs waste, sewage, and drainage pipes; replaces broken fixtures and installs new fixtures; caulks and packs joints; supervises and participates in the installation and maintenance of steam and hot water heating systems; repairs broken valves, hydrants, service pipes, and drinking fountains; operates pipe cutters, reamers, threading machines, sewer tapes and cables, and other plumbing tools, and equipment; maintains records and reports of materials, labor and time costs; requisitions material; and performs related duties as required.

MINIMUM  QUALIFICATIONS

            Knowledge  of:

                        Standard practices, equipment, materials, and tools of the plumbing trade;

                        Prevailing plumbing codes;

                        Occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade.  

and

            Ability  to:

            Effectively supervise skilled workers engaged in maintenance, repair, and installation work related to the plumbing trade;

                        Interpret and work from pencilled sketches, drawings, plans, and blueprints;

                        Make and project material and labor estimates.

and

            Skills:

                        In the use of standard tools and equipment of the plumbing trade.

and

            Experience:

                        Three years of experience as a journeyman plumber.

and

            Education:

                        Equivalent to completion of the tenth grade.
