DEFINITION
Under general supervision to perform complex clerical and technical work
involving fiscal and operating reports, documents, and records; to prepare
A.D.A. reports from data received from individual schools; and to maintain
the district's inventory system.
DISTINGUISHING
CHARACTERISTICS
Positions in this class are characterized by the wide latitude given for
independent judgment and initiative for resolving problems within a major
area of responsibility. These positions are typically located in the
payroll, retirement, attendance and accounting sections where the
technical nature of the job requires an overall understanding of the
system.
EXAMPLES
OF DUTIES
Assists with development of accounting data and reports which reflect
accounting formation for revenue and expenditure of funds for special
projects and programs; examines purchase requisitions for equipment,
supplies, or expenses for proper coding and enters amounts into proper
accounts; prepares payroll reports and maintains payroll data necessary to
preparation of monthly and per diem payrolls; balances and resolves
discrepancies in payrolls; maintains records and processes all changes
regarding employee retirement programs; audits enrollment and attendance
procedures and their accuracy at the elementary level on a regular basis;
compiles monthly and yearly reports showing enrollment, average daily
attendance class size, enrollment by grades, and other required
information; assists with inservice training of personnel working with
enrollment and attendance records; maintains a variety of accounts and
records of department property and reconciles all new capital outlays to
the correct location; systematically takes an actual physical count of the
district's assets; prepares beginning and ending asset balances showing
deletions and additions; keeps a manual total of the warehouse stock
balance and makes necessary adjusting entries; indexes and files bills,
vouchers and other documents related to specially funded projects;
performs a variety of difficult clerical work involving the use of an
adding machine and calculator; and related duties as required.
MINIMUM
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
Methods and practices of financial recordkeeping and clerical work;
Financial statement and general accounting control procedures;
Modern office methods and procedures;
Rules, regulations, laws and policies governing the school district and
ability to apply them with good judgment.

Ability to:
Analyze and interpret fiscal records and documents and to prepare accurate
and complete financial summaries and reports;
Make arithmetical calculations with speed and accuracy;
Understand and carry out difficult oral and written instructions;
Work cooperatively with those contacted in the course of the work;
Operate an adding machine and calculator;
Learn laws, regulations, and policies governing attendance accounting.

Experience:
One year of responsible experience in complex clerical financial or
accounting work, preferably including financial, statistical or accounting
experience in a school district.
and
Education:
Two years of college including courses in statistics, accounting or
bookkeeping. (Additional qualifying experience may be substituted on
a year-for-year basis.)
