Account Clerk II Position Description

DEFINITION

            Under direction, to perform complex and difficult bookkeeping and clerical work in keeping, checking, and preparing financial or statistical records; and to perform tasks which may require the use of a typewriter.

DISTINGUISHING  CHARACTERISTICS

            Account clerk II is differentiated from the account clerk I by the level of complex and difficult tasks assigned; the extent of independent judgment exercised in resolving clerical and bookkeeping errors; the kind of supervision received; the required conceptual knowledge and understanding of debits and credits and how they affect the balance sheet; and an overall understanding of the school district accounting system.

EXAMPLES  OF  DUTIES

            Recaps, verifies, balances, or adjusts accounts; posts, checks invoices, gas and maintenance records, requisitions, purchase orders, and similar fiscal documents; keeps various financial records requiring the use of independent judgment; receives reimbursements for posting to subsidiary or control ledgers; keeps journal, and subsidiary ledgers; prepares and assists in preparing and typing of accounting or statistical reports and schedules; operates adding, calculating, and bookkeeping machines; and performs related duties as required.

MINIMUM  QUALIFICATIONS

            Knowledge  of:  

            Methods, practices, and terminology of financial and statistical clerical work;

            Preparing financial statements such as balance sheets and income statements;

                        Debit and credits and how it affects the balance sheet.

and

            Ability  to:

                        Prepare accurate and complete financial summaries and reports;

                        Make arithmetical calculations with speed and accuracy;

                        Work cooperatively with those contacted in the course of work;

                        Operate an adding machine, calculator, and bookkeeping machine.

and

            Experience:

            Two years of experience in preparation and maintenance of financial records.

and

            Education:

            Equivalent to completion of high school, preferably supplemented by courses in financial record-keeping such as Accounting 1-A and 1-B, or its equivalent.
