DEFINITION
Under general direction, to perform skilled painting work involving the
supervision of a group of journeyman painters engaged in interior and
exterior painting of school buildings and equipment.
EXAMPLES
OF DUTIES
Assigns subordinated painters to work details, and inspects work in
progress and upon completion to ensure that it meets required standards;
inspects equipment, buildings, or other structures reported to be in need
of painting; considers the need for painting and estimates time,
materials, and costs; supervises and participates in the preparation of
surfaces to be painted by use of sandpaper, steel wool, scrapers, or soap
and water; sandblasts surfaces preparatory to painting; paints interior
and exterior walls and ceilings of school buildings with brush or spray
gun, as required; may varnish, stain, shellac, or otherwise finish desks,
doors, cabinets, moldings, and floors; mixes paints, varnishes, shellac,
and enamels; cleans and stores brushes; maintains records and reports of
material, labor, and time costs; requisitions material; and performs
related duties as required.
MINIMUM
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
Standard methods, equipment, materials, tools, and practices of the trade;
Occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade.

Ability to:
Effectively supervise skilled workers in preparing surfaces, mixing
paints, and proper application of paint;
Make and project material and labor estimates.
and
Physical:
Good color sense and eyesight as required in mixing and matching paints
and enamels.
Experience:
Three years as a journeyman painter.
and
Education:
Equivalent to completion of the tenth grade.
