DEFINITION
Under general direction to supervise and assist a moderately large group
of semi-skilled and unskilled workers engaged in general maintenance
operations and gardening work on school buildings and grounds.
EXAMPLES
OF DUTIES
Supervises the work of labor crews in maintenance, planting, pruning,
mowing, and related duties, and checks the work of subordinates to see
that the work is properly done; plans and lays out the work of subordinate
foremen and crews; estimates material and equipment needs and costs; keeps
work, time, and material records and prepares reports; and performs
related duties as required.
MINIMUM
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
Materials, methods, and techniques commonly used in maintenance and
gardening activities;
Hazards and safety precautions of the work;
Plants, shrubs, seeds, fertilizer, pesticides, and plant propagation.
and
Ability to:
Lay out, direct, and supervise the work of moderately large crews and
subordinate foremen performing semi-skilled and unskilled work and to
obtain efficient results;
Understand and follow moderately complex oral and written instructions;
Keep records, estimate costs, and prepare work and time reports.
and
Experience:
Two years of experience in laborer-gardener work, preferably including
some supervisory experience.
and
Education:
Equivalent to completion of the tenth grade.
