DEFINITION
Under general direction, to perform skilled electrical work and to
supervise journeyman electricians in installing, altering, maintaining,
and repairing of electrical systems, equipment, and fixtures; and, in
addition, personally to perform the more difficult electrical tasks.
EXAMPLES
OF DUTIES
Assigns subordinate electricians to work details and inspects work in
progress and upon completion to ensure that it meets the required
standards; supervises a variety of electrical installation, maintenance,
and repair work in school-owned buildings; supervised electrical motor
work, including installing new bearings and brushes, replacing armature
parts, and turning commutators, cleaning and oiling, and repairing
controls, switches, and overload relays; anticipates lists of required
materials to a superior for ordering; keeps records of work proposed and
completed; operates shop equipment, including lathes and drill presses in
construction, alteration, and repair of electrical equipment and parts;
and performs related duties as required.
MINIMUM
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
Standard practices and materials and tools of the electrical trade;
Occupational hazards and the proper safety precautions of the trade;
Local, state, and national codes applicable to installation, maintenance,
and repair work.

Ability to:
Lay out, assign, and supervise the work of others;
Make accurate estimates of the time and the materials needed for
installation and repair work;
Work from drawings and specifications;
Understand and effectively carry out complex oral and written
instructions.
Skills:
In the use of the tools and in the operation of equipment used in the
trade;
In the location and repair of defects in electrical systems.
and
Experience:
Three years of journeyman-level experience.
and
Education:
Equivalent to graduation from high school.
