Definition
Under
direction, to plan, carry out, and evaluate instructional activities in
the area of driver training, for both groups and individual pupils, and
under simulated and actual driving conditions.
Qualifications
A bachelor's degree;
and
General secondary credential, special secondary credential in public
safety and accident prevention including driver education and driver
training, a standard designated subjects teaching credential in public
safety and accident prevention including driver education and driver
training, or a standard teaching credential with specialization in
secondary teaching with a major or minor preparing the holder for the
teaching of driver education and driver training;
and
A minimum of six semester hours of course work in public safety and
accident prevention and in driver education and training or a statement of
approval from the State Department of Education.
Typical
Duties and Responsibilities
Teaches in
accordance with the abilities and achievements of pupils assigned to the
driver training program, and in conformance with the district's course of
study for driver instruction.
Prepares
lesson plans which are consistent with established goals and measurable
objectives.
Maintains
a behavioral climate conducive to learning, and works cooperatively with
administrators in attempting to resolve problems of pupil behavior.
Communicates
with pupils and parents regarding the educational progress of pupils.
Prepares formal progress reports and provides other information
appropriate for inclusion in the cumulative records of the pupils assigned
to his or her classes.
Maintains
plans and instructional materials in such a way that they can be utilized
by substitute teaching personnel when the need arises.
Executes
and prepares such forms, records, and reports as may be called for in the
management of the schools.
Works
cooperatively with principals and other district administrators and
supervisors in planning and implementing the educational programs of the
schools.
Exercises
supervision and care over all furniture, books, supplies, and equipment
entrusted to his care and instructs pupils in the proper use and
preservation of school properties.
Attends
meetings called by order of the principal, superintendent, department
chairman, or other administrator authorized to call meetings.
Supervises
extracurricular activities as directed.
Serves, as
requested, on school and district-wide committees and project teams.
Attends
and participates in required in-service training activities and works with
his principal in planning his own in-service program.
Assumes
other appropriate school responsibilities as directed.
Work
Schedule and Salary
The
teacher, driver training, serves on the days schools are in session plus
required non-teaching service days, and is placed on the teachers' salary
schedule according to his training and experience.
