DEFINITION
Under the direction of the principal, the Resource Teacher, Magnet
Assistance Grant, will work with children, classroom teachers,
paraprofessionals and other specialists at the school site on behalf of
the Magnet Assistance Program. The aim of the program will be to
provide over and above services to identified children in the areas of
reading, language, mathematics, and science at all levels.
QUALIFICATIONS
The minimum requirements are a bachelor's degree, a valid California
Teaching Credential appropriate to the level of instruction, and
demonstrated competency in the areas of reading, language, mathematics,
and science instruction.
Priority consideration shall be given to candidates who have undertaken
advanced training or indicate a willingness to undertake such training.
TYPICAL
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Works
with Curriculum Services Department and assists with school staff in
developing appropriate magnet school curriculum.

Assists
staff in class organization and in grade level or subject area
planning in magnet specialty and related areas as well as reviewing,
evaluating, selecting, and securing appropriate instructional
materials.

Works
directly with children to provide over and above services and
enhancement of each child's self-image.

Works
toward individualizing of instruction in accordance with program
objectives, with focus on reading, language, mathematics, and science.

Assists
teaching staff by developing and providing effective teaching
strategies for staff use.

Diagnoses
proficiencies in reading, language, mathematics, and science for
students, provides appropriate prescriptive programs and written
lessons based upon the diagnostic findings, and evaluates progress.

Assists
staff advising magnet school students and parents in appropriate level
placement and prepares and/or organizes appropriate individualized
instructional resources and materials for children's learning needs;
communicates with pupils, parents, and staff regarding pupils'
educational progress.

Assists
in recruitment of magnet students and is responsible for developing
materials related to magnet program recruitment.

Makes
personal contacts and appearances in the community on behalf of the
magnet program; arranges for visitations to the magnet program by
interested educators/community members.

Works
with Department of Integrated Education/Magnet Schools to improve
program for a multicultural community and works with Research and
Evaluation in planning and implementing and evaluation of the magnet
program at the school site.

Works
with the magnet parent advisory committee and other school committees.

Develops
and maintains systems of record keeping for short-term and long-term
evaluations of pupil progress.

Arranges
for appropriate offerings of in-service for magnet staff and
participates in in-service meetings within the parameters of the
Sacramento Agreement.

Performs
other duties relative to the program within the parameters of the
Sacramento Agreement.
WORK SCHEDULE AND
SALARY
A school site Magnet Assistance Resource
Teacher serves on the same work day as all other site teachers and is
placed on the teachers' salary schedule according to training and
experience.
