DEFINITION
Under direction, to work with teachers, pupils, and parents to provide
bilingual/bicultural instruction and to create a teaching-learning
environment at the elementary segment.
QUALIFICATIONS
The minimum requirements are a bachelor's degree and a valid California
Elementary Teaching credential. Additional prerequisites are
demonstrated competency in the area of reading instruction, good health,
emotional maturity, creativity, and an agreeable personality.
Preference will be given to those who have had advanced college courses
and clinical training in reading diagnosis and prescription.
The Bilingual Resource Teacher must be proficient in spoken and written
English and in the language specified in the project. He should have
some experience in curriculum development as well as formal training in
the teaching of English as a Second Language. He must have
experience in working with children of the specified racial or ethnic
group, and must be familiar with the value systems and life styles of both
the immigrant and native born, and sensitive to their social and academic
needs.
TYPICAL
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Sets
up and manages the teaching-learning process in an effective
bilingual/bicultural learning environment.

Identifies
and revises performance objectives for the pupils on the basis of need
and evaluation.

Develops,
field tests, and revises instructional materials for pupils to suit
individual needs.

Participates
in planning and implementation of program in the priority areas as
required by the project and determined by the total staff.

Evaluates
academic and social growth of pupils and keeps appropriate records.

Utilizes
appropriate materials to strengthen pupil's ability so that he can
express himself creatively in a variety of media.

Communicates
with parents and holds parent conferences to discuss the individual
pupil's program and school progress.

Participates
in in-service meetings.
WORK
SCHEDULE AND SALARY
The
Resource Bilingual Teacher serves on the days schools are in session plus
required non-teaching service days, and is placed on the teachers' salary
schedule according to his training and experience.
