DEFINITION
Under direction, to train and assist school level personnel in carrying
out program components in the areas specified in the American Indian
Education Program.
QUALIFICATIONS
Credential: Possession of a basic teaching credential appropriate to
the assigned segment or credentials of equivalent authorization, issued by
the California Commission for Teacher Preparation and Licensing, is
required.

Education: A bachelor's degree from an approved institution and
specialized course work in the designated area of responsibility as
required.
and
Experience: Three years of successful teaching experience.
Person must be knowledgeable in history in general and Indian history
specifically able to assume leadership in the teaching of Indian crafts,
art forms, dance literature, music, science, and philosophy. Should
be able to work effectively and cooperatively with the Indian community.
TYPICAL
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsible
for providing lessons, demonstrations, presentations, and programs
related to Indian history and culture in elementary classrooms where
identified Indian students are enrolled.

Provide
inservicing (Indian history and culture) for staffs of elementary
schools having identified Indian students.

Develop
and prepare materials to be used with students and school staffs.

Work
with the program coordinator in planning field trips and other special
activities for the elementary and secondary schools.

Attend
and participate in the monthly Parent Committee meetings.
WORK
SCHEDULE AND SALARY
Resource
teachers serve on the days schools are in session plus required
non-teaching service days, and are placed on the teachers' salary scale
according to training and experience. Additional days of service may
be required for which compensation will be paid at the per diem rate.
