DEFINITION
Under the direction of the Special Education Department and the
principal(s) of his/her assigned school(s), the Special Education Resource
Specialist Teacher will work with individuals at elementary or secondary
levels with exceptional needs, classroom teachers and principals,
prescription, implementation, and evaluation of instructional planning,
special instruction, tutorial assistance or other services to individuals
with exceptional needs who are assigned to regular classrooms more than
fifty percent of the time.
QUALIFICATIONS
Credential: Possession of a valid California Special Education
Credential appropriate to the program assignment.

Education: A Bachelor's degree from an approved institution is
required. Applicants must have completed, be enrolled in, or
indicate their intent to enroll in an advanced preparation program in
special education.

Experience: A minimum of one year of full-time teaching experiences
in public or private schools is required. Preference will be given
to those who have completed three or more years of such experience.
TYPICAL
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Provides
instruction and services for those pupils whose needs have been
identified and in a written instructional plan developed by the School
Appraisal Team or the Educational Assessment Service Team who are
assigned to regular classroom teachers for a majority of a school day.

Assists
the principal in the screening process and in scheduling individual
recommended for special education services to the School
Appraisal-Educational Assessment Service Team.

Assists
in the diagnosis of learning problems; prepares appropriate
prescriptive programs based on the diagnostic findings and evaluates
progress.

Provides
appropriate individualized instructional resources and materials for
the individual's learning needs in cooperation with the program
specialist and other support personnel as needed.

Cooperates
with the classroom teacher and principal in conferring with pupils,
parents, and staff regarding the individual's educational progress.

Maintains
systems of record keeping for short and long-term evaluations of pupil
progress.

Plans
and participates in inservice meetings.

Assists
and consults with the classroom teacher and other support personnel to
coordinate and plan programs, provide curricular resources, and assess
program effectiveness for individuals with exceptional needs.

Serves
as a member of the School Appraisal Team and Educational Assessment
Service Team as appropriate.
WORK
SCHEDULE AND SALARY
A
Special Education Resource Specialist Teacher serves on the days schools
are in session plus required non-teaching service days, and is placed on
the teachers' salary schedule according to training and experience.
