DEFINITION
Under direction, the Resource Specialist, Career Development and
Vocational Assessment - DIS, will modify the special class curriculum to
emphasize basic skills and competencies necessary for vocational
development and daily living skills. This will include the
implementation of assessment in the areas of vocational interest and
aptitudes. The Resource Specialist will also be responsible for
responding to referrals for formal vocational assessments of special class
students, and for support to school personnel in recommending placement of
students in vocational education programs.
QUALIFICATIONS
Credential: Possession of a Teaching Credential in special
education, or a credential of equivalent authorization, issued by the
California State Board of Education, is required. Priority
consideration will be given to those possessing teaching credentials in
vocational education, guidance or vocational assessment and a valid
California driver's license is required.

Education: A bachelor's degree with a major in psychology,
counseling, or some combination of vocational education and/or special
education from an approved institution is required.

Experience: Evidence of experience should include two years of
full-time employment. Experience should include participation in
vocational programs for individuals with handicaps. Preference will
be given to applicants with a background in vocational
evaluation/guidance.
TYPICAL
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Modifies
special class curriculum to emphasize basic/vocational skill
development.

Prepares
curriculum materials for use in special classes.

Provides
inservice to special class teachers in using the vocational/basic
skills curriculum components, and relating these components to regular
academic instruction.

Works
closely with special education instructors and aides in grades 8-12,
relative to assessment of their students, and placement in vocational
education programs.

Upon
referral, administers vocational interest and aptitude tests, develops
and administers vocational-academic tests, physical ability tests, and
task sampling activities.

Upon
referral, prepares assessment summaries and makes recommendations for
appropriate vocational education and/or other educational placements.

Participates
in Individualized Education Program team meetings as required.

Performs
other duties as assigned by the Director, Special Education.
WORK
SCHEDULE AND SALARY
A
Resource Teacher serves on the days schools are in session, plus required
non-teaching service days, and is placed on the teachers' salary schedule
according to his or her training and experience.
