DEFINITION
Under direction, to develop nutrition education curriculum, materials and
activities for grades 9-12 and provide inservice training for teachers and
other staff members who are/will be involved in program implementation.
QUALIFICATIONS
Credential: Possession of a standard teaching credential with
specialization in secondary education or credential of equivalent
authorization, issued by the California Commission for Teacher Preparation
and Licensing, is required.

Education: A bachelor's degree, with a major in home economics,
nutrition or health education, from an approved institution is required.
Preference will be given to those who have completed study in the area of
nutrition education.

Experience: A minimum of three years of certificated experience
including experience in the development of curriculum and inservice
training programs.
TYPICAL
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Provides
leadership to the development of nutrition education curriculum,
materials and activities for grades 9-12.

Coordinates
the involvement of teachers and resource persons in the curriculum
development effort.

Arranges
for and assists in the review, revision and evaluation of programs and
materials for nutrition education.

Develops
and implements a plan to provide inservice training for those involved
in implementation of the curriculum.

Attends
meetings, conferences and workshops scheduled in conjunction with the
project.

Cooperates
with the project evaluator in the development and implementation of
plans for the project evaluation.

Makes
presentations to district staff members, State Department of Education
representatives and community representatives as required.

Prepares
and submits reports as required by the project.

Assumes
other appropriate responsibilities as directed by the Director,
Vocational Education.
WORK
SCHEDULE AND SALARY
The
Program Specialist, Nutrition Education Project, serves on the days
schools are in session plus required non-teaching service days, and is
placed on the program specialists' salary schedule according to his/her
training and experience. Additional days of service may be required
for which compensation will be paid at his/her per diem rate.
