DEFINITION
Under direction, the educational audiologist will assess and monitor the
auditory function/amplification used by hearing impaired pupils in special
classrooms within the district.
QUALIFICATIONS
The requirement for the position is a valid California Special Services
Credential with authorization in audiology. Possession of the
Certificate of Clinical Competence with a specialization in audiology from
the American Speech and Hearing Association, and a valid California
license in Audiology, are desired. Since the audiologist will be
serving pupils in more than one school, a car for his/her daily use is
required.
TYPICAL
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Monitors
pure tone thresholds of hearing impaired pupils in special education
programs and provides information to classroom teachers regarding the
use of functioning amplification.

Assesses
the middle ear function of all the hearing impaired pupils at least
annually and more frequently according to the needs of the individual
pupils.

Monitors
the hearing aids and earmolds of these hearing impaired pupils both
electroacoustically and by means of listening and speech checks.
If possible, the aids should be restored to use.

Contacts
parents as required to provide information, counseling, assistance and
recommendations.

Assesses
the aided auditory skills of the hearing impaired pupils as needed or
requested.

Works
cooperatively with classroom teachers, resource specialists, nurses
and other allied personnel.

Executes
and prepares such forms, records, and reports as may be called for in
the audiologic management of the hearing impaired pupils and other
pupils for whom services are requested.

Contacts
and consults other professionals in the community regarding audiologic
management of the pupil as desired by parents, teachers, or
administrators.

Works
cooperatively with principals and other district administrators and
supervisors in planning and implementing the educational programs of
the schools.

Exercises
supervision and care over all equipment, furniture, books and supplies
entrusted to his/her care and instructs pupils in the proper use and
preservation of school properties.

Maintains
the audiologic equipment (service and calibration).

Attends
and participates in required inservice training activities.

duties as assigned.
WORK
SCHEDULE AND SALARY
An
Educational Audiologist serves only on the days schools are in session
plus required non-teaching service days, and is placed on the teachers'
salary schedule according to his/her training and experience; except that
regardless of the number of units earned, no teacher assigned to special
education classes shall be placed lower than Class III.
