Local Area Network (LAN) Support 
Local Area Networks are the basic means by which we provide access to a variety
of information resources. LANs are usually limited to a specific location, such as a
site or department. Our LAN staff supports standard, district-wide information systems and provides second-level support for network growth and problem
resolution. We manage the district's e-rate program. E-rate is a federal program
that funds network infrastructure in schools and librarys. By using this program,
schools can obtain LANs at a fraction of the full cost.
Wide Area Networks (WAN)
District local area networks are linked together into our
wide area network to allow sites and departments at different locations to
communicate with one another. Our WAN is supported by outside vendors.
Schools may have special WAN needs related to specific instructional
objectives. IS can consult with schools and departments to achieve a balance
of access, security, and other project requirements, such as was done for a
program at Luther Burbank High School.
