Mark Twain's mission is to build a positive school environment to meet the needs of each student by providing opportunities to develop academic and social skills necessary to meet grade level standards. Our specific school goals are to provide a safe environment for students and staff, to instill an eagerness on the part of students to attend school, to provide student programs which respond to cultural and ethnic diversity, and to have good communication between students, parents and teachers.

Extracurricular activities at Mark Twain contribute to the excitement of school and include our math contest, physical education Play Day, spelling bee, Halloween parade, honor choir and after-school athletics. We also feature performing arts assemblies and programs and a Careers with Children program through the neighboring Hiram Johnson High School West Campus. In addition, Mark Twain offers GATE as well as special education services.

Services for parents include a teacher's monthly newsletter, back-to-school night, open hour, special needs conferences, PTA, and of course, regular notices and information.
