Is your teen ready for college?
Learn what it takes to prepare at SCUSD's College Fair, 'Path to College' night

e-Connections Post

SCUSD is sponsoring two great events for families and students to learn what teens need to do now to prepare for college.

The annual SCUSD College Fair will be held from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, September 22, at Hiram Johnson High School (6879 14th Ave.)

Representatives of more than 70 colleges and universities — including UCs, CSUs, out-of-state and private institutions — will be on hand to answer questions, provide information and examine seniors’ transcripts.

On October 2, SCUSD is sponsoring “Path to College,” a chance for families to learn about benefits of taking the PSAT and how Advanced Placement classes can provide students the opportunity to challenge themselves with college level work, and possibly earn college credit by passing AP exams.

Keynote speaker is Ben Tucker, an education consultant specializing in the field of college counseling. As the former director of Academic Outreach programs for the University of California system, Tucker has expert credentials to provide insight on college readiness.

The workshop will be held from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on October 2 at the Serna Center, 5735 47th Ave. For more information, contact Stephanie Shaughnessy at stephanie-shaughnessy@scusd.edu or (916) 643-2348.
