Win 10 tons of compost for your school’s garden at Farm-to-Fork event

e-Connections Post

At this Saturday’s city-sponsored Farm-to-Fork event on the Capitol Mall (near Fifth Street), Save Mart Supermarkets will be giving away 10 tons of compost to two school or community gardens.

An entry box will be located at Save Mart’s booth. Any school or community organization with a garden is eligible to win. There is no limit on entries, but the forms must be filled out at the booth.

The drawing will be held at 3:30 p.m. in Save Mart’s booth. Winners will be contacted to arrange for the donation and need not be present for the drawing.

Also, children visiting the booth will be able to plant a vegetable seed in compost and take it home to grow.

This high quality compost is made from fresh waste generated at Lucky, Save Mart and FoodMaxx stores. It is back-hauled to a production facility in the Central Valley, made into compost, and then brought back for sales in these stores, a practice the company has been conducting since 2007.

In 2012 alone, Save Mart composted more than 22,600 tons of compost from its stores.
