Nordstrom officials surprised West Campus High School senior Christina Fang on Monday with a  $10,000 scholarship and a MacBook Air.

“I’m really grateful and I’m also really surprised!” Fang said as Nordstrom Director of Diversity Affairs Leslie Aoyama handed her an oversized check and gift bag. “I want to thank Nordstrom for being willing do do this for students. This is a really good day for me!”

Fang’s reaction was captured on video by news teams from both Fox40 and KCRA. Her parents, T.H. and Tina Fang, were also on hand to share in the surprise.

“I’m so proud and so excited,” said Fang’s father. “This is going to be a real big help.”

Fang is one of only 80 winners of the Nordstrom “Ten4U” scholarship across the country. To qualify, students must demonstrate community involvement, financial need and strong academics. Applicants also must submit a personal statement and answer an essay question.

In the Northern California/Hawaii region, more than 900 students competed for one of nine “Ten4U” scholarships, according to Aoyama.

Fang plans to major in biology and is in the process now of applying to universities.
