UC Davis students paint mural for Cesar Chavez Intermediate
September is Latino Heritage Month
UC Davis Chicano Studies students in artist Maceo Montoya’s Mural Workshop class have created an inspirational mural for Cesar Chavez Intermediate School, which serves grades 4-6 in South Sacramento.
The themes of the mural were developed through interviews with students and their parents. Cesar Chavez serves neighborhood children with its traditional program and a dual-language Spanish language immersion track.
The center image is of a child holding a diploma — a goal that parents in the neighborhood hold for their children. “The mural is helping students see themselves through these great images,” said Principal Eracleo Guevara.
