Superintendent Aguilar’s Tenure to Kick-Off with Press Conference
Superintendent Jorge Aguilar will be kicking off the school year, and his tenure as Superintendent, with a first day of school press conference on Thursday, August 31st. The event will be at 10 a.m. at Hiram Johnson High School in the Little Theater. Superintendent Aguilar is expected to announce at the press conference his approach for improving graduation rates in the district, as well as issue a call to action to community members.
The Sacramento City Unified School District reported an 80.5 percent graduation rate in the 2015-16 school year. That figure is below both the county (81.2 percent) and state average (83.2 percent). Furthermore, Hispanic and African-American students are graduating at lower rates than other subgroups even though they make up almost 56 percent of the district’s student populations.
While there is much to be proud of in Sac City Unified, Superintendent Aguilar has pledged to ensure “every student has an equal opportunity to graduate with the most number of postsecondary choices from the widest array of options”. His announcement next Thursday will kick-off the launch of an exciting new era in the history of our district.
