Student artists to showcase work at Very Special Arts Festival

I Can Do That! and SCUSD will present the 27th annual Very Special Arts Festival from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Friday, May 17 at the Coloma Community Center, 4623 T Street.

More than 1,750 student artists from 32 SCUSD schools will showcase high-quality performances and visual artwork created this spring through the I Can Do That! Artists-in-the-Schools programs. 

I Can Do That!/Very Special Arts has been part of SCUSD for 27 years, having grown from  fewer than 300 children to more than 1,750 children and youth.

The 2013 Very Special Arts Festival will feature puppet shows, ceramics, rock band performances, theatre presentations, drawings, dances and paintings created by students from special education and general education classes within SCUSD.

“Funshops” (hands-on workshops in the arts led by community artists) will also be available for children and adults. Come make dream catchers, castanets, diffusing flowers, friendship bands, flying saucers, self-portraits, side-walk chalk drawing and pinwheels.

The event is free and open to the general public.
